For those who don’t know, I have been in Central America for more than 6 weeks. I didn’t write about my experiences – until now – because I was still processing them! Now that I have clarity, I thought it’d be fun to share my adventures traveling alone. Yes, I’m out here by myself. Lookin’ sad and dirty. I’m joking about the sad part but it has been an adjustment. I have felt uncomfortable, scared, anxious, curious, aware, grateful, and alive. And there’s still more to come.

Here are a few discoveries this week:

1. When rice is cooked in vegetable oil, it is no longer healthy.
2. When you go running in Central America, you are a spectacle. People will stare and point. Children, particularly boys, will laugh.
3. Running through a pack of stray dogs is scary and gross.
4. But the latter will make you burn more calories.
5. The walls are thin. All of the walls are very thin.

Tip of the Day: Be wary of what you eat/drink at your desk. The likelihood that you will consume more than you intend to is guaranteed. You are distracted by your work and cannot fully focus on the hand that keeps reaching into the bag or that “special drawer”. Keep water or fresh veggies by your computer. When I wrote this blog post, I sipped on a delicious watermelon smoothie.

If you don’t want to hear about my day, just let me know and I will post about someone else’s day. 🙂

@Tommy. I wish you could hear me sighing. I’m glad #4 is in print. (The part about needing an Angel fix.) Because when I get back, everyone will ask if you’ve come to get your fitness fix. I don’t want to have to tell them “no”….. I miss seeing you sweat.

@Stephen. Stop looking, you won’t find anything. I didn’t announce my journey on this blog because I didn’t think it was “relevant”. then I realized that this is my blog so I can do whatever I want. Ha!

How’s the fitness world, my friend?

Angel · 04/19/2013 at 1:39 pm

@Dipali. Yes, for the green smoothie revolution. It only took me two years to convince you. 🙂 I cannot WAIT to meet Jasmine. Though we should postpone the meeting because she will be scared by my enthusiasm. I’ve been waiting for her all my life.

Stephen Anderson · 04/19/2013 at 6:54 am

…um ok. Perhaps I should just read back a few posts to see what’s been going on while I was away. 🙂

Pamela F. · 04/19/2013 at 12:32 am

Stephen Anderson · 04/18/2013 at 7:48 pm

Angel…I’ve been in my own little fitness world. So…um. Why are you in Central America?

Dipali · 04/18/2013 at 4:49 pm

That smoothie looks refreshing. Thanks to you, I have finally jumped on the green smoothie bandwagon and find them to be quick, healthy, yummy, and filling. Jasmine and I can’t wait to see you when you get back. I’m looking forward to hearing more about your trip.
