Oh my, we are close to the end of the challenge. For those of you who are still here, thank you. I know it’s hectic with the holidays. I appreciate your diligence.

Day 19 of the Fitness Challenge

1. For 24 or 48 hours, avoid foods that contain more than 4 ingredients. If the list of ingredients numbers 5 or more, it is not allowed. Period. Clean foods are allowed. For instance, if you have a salad with cucumbers, carrots, almonds, apples, avocado, and tomatoes, that is fine. Yes, it has more than 5 ingredients but they are natural foods. I’m talking about things that are processed. So if you make homemade cookies, you are allowed to eat them as long as there aren’t five ingredients. Many things that come in box, bag, or jar are suspect. Your Starbucks bagel, croissant, muffin. Suspect. Your man friend who hasn’t called in a week. Suspect.

*For those who want to step it up a notch, eat items with 3 ingredients are less.

Let me know if you are going for 24 or 48 hours. Yes, this will be hard. You can choose to start as soon as you read this or do it over the next few days. Questions?

Coach, I wanted to let you know that I found dried mango that is only dried mango – no sugar or sulfur or anything else added. Trader Joes ‘Just Mango Slices’ are delicious and just dried mangos. 6 oz package is 1.99 and has 4.5 servings in it. Thought of you when I saw it, bought a package and it’s tasty.

Starting my 24 hrs tomorrow and then I will go for the 48. I need to plan my meals in advance which is something I REALLY need to work on.

I managed 24 hours, but not 48. I have too many plans to eat out over the next few days, and therefore won’t know enough about the ingredients of what I’m eating. I’ll do 48 hours Jan 7-9. Feeling pretty good about food choices during the holidays though.

@Angel, amazing how even minimally processed whole foods manage to sneak things in. However I did find that TJs prunes are only 2 ingredients and moist and delicious and just sweet enough to stem the sugar craving.

Wow. This one is going to be hard and requires serious research and prep on my part! I’m gonna start with 24 hours and see what happens. Life is real rough this week, so I am targeting next Sunday to do this challenge. But it will get done!!!

I have been off post since the 24th and I have been very, very bad; desserts, cookies, birthday cake, bread…
So now I am back and will commit to 48 hours of less than 5 ingredients, starting this morning.

@Elena. I feel you! I went to Whole Foods thinking i could get some dried mango. But between the mango, sugar, absorbic acid and whatever else they added, it was more than 4 ingredients. I was upset.

Going for 48 starting now so that puts me through lunch on Monday. Thankfully this coincides with the plan to not go out to eat until the new year and the weekend dinners are all planned out and are all from scratch whole foods (mm black eyed peas with tofu and vegetables). Also grr on making it 4 or less since Haagen Dazs makes their 5 ingredient ice cream that is now off limits 🙁

Question: If I choose option 2, can I drink wine? If so, that’s what I choose. If not, we’ve got a problem.
