Day 16 is about feeding your body and your soul.

Day 16: Feed the Machine

  • Feed Your Body. Eat 3 cups of vegetables. Measure with a measuring cup! (That’s me yelling.) Have you tried this Garden Veggie Omelete?  A-m-a-z-i-n-g.
  • Accomplish one of your goals. If you can’t accomplish it right now (your goal is to not yell at your daughter but she is not there for you to practice not yelling at her), make progress towards it. Read “The Way of the Peaceful Parent”.
  • Extra Credit: Feed Your Soul. Take a yoga, tai chi, pilates, or stretch class. Or engage in 5-10 minutes of mediation and/or prayer. For help, read meditation for beginners.

@Slomo Swim rhymes with Shem.

Angel · 08/02/2013 at 2:44 pm

@Heidi. Tell him I said, “Thank you”.

Angel · 08/02/2013 at 10:36 am

@Nomi. Victory!!!

Nomi · 08/01/2013 at 9:00 pm

Two days late, and all my veggies (measured correctly) are in. Ready to do it again tomorrow.

Heidi · 07/31/2013 at 2:52 pm

I forgot to report in, but I have been upping the veggies significantly. My awesome boyfriend makes me a smoothie with soy milk, bananas, 2 c kale, and frozen grapes. It is lovely.

Sandy · 07/31/2013 at 12:29 pm

Potatoes for breakfast with scrambled eggs.

flatbread turkey sandwich with green peppers, cucumbers, olives and yellow peppers for lunch.

Baked salmon and arugula for dinner.

Emily P · 07/31/2013 at 11:15 am

Had a huge salad with lunch and snacked on some sliced bell peppers after dinner. Sadly, those were the highlights of my meals yesterday as it ended up being my cheat day. But I did make it to bed by 10 pm (just barely).

Slomo · 07/31/2013 at 9:03 am

Swam 2000 meters this morning so the knee is happy. Getting hurt was a blessing in disguise – I haven’t swum (awkward present perfect tense) in 4 years!!!!! Feeling grateful to have been forced into it.

SHEM!!!!!! You better start commenting on this blog, son! I know you’re reading it! I will definitely call you out again, too.

Mason – you too. Smh.

Darlene · 07/31/2013 at 9:02 am

Angel you and Rachel definitely need to meet. The world would be a better place.

Angel · 07/31/2013 at 8:44 am

@Nomi. I aim to please.

Angel · 07/31/2013 at 8:44 am

@Roxie’s Great job!

Angel · 07/31/2013 at 8:44 am

@Rachel. I can’t take you. I’m laughing at my computer looking crazy. And I’d like to officially keep ANGEL BROCCOLI. Thank you for that. How’d you do on the veggies???

Angel · 07/31/2013 at 8:43 am

@Darlene. Homerun! I’m blown away. Stop trying to impress me – It’s working.

Angel · 07/31/2013 at 8:42 am

@Rachel P. This has got to stop. I’m putting my foot down. Stop trying to be funnier than me. This is my blog. Mine. Mine. Mine. I’m supposed to be the star. Me. Me. 🙂 In other news, if we were to meet in person, I’m certain the world would be a better place.

Angel · 07/31/2013 at 8:40 am

@Slomo. Boom. Where’s Shem?

Angel · 07/31/2013 at 8:40 am

@Victoria. Great veggie choices. Nice treadmill work.

Angel · 07/31/2013 at 8:39 am

@elena. Things are going well for you.

Angel · 07/31/2013 at 8:39 am

@Carrie. For this challenge, potatoes don’t count as a vegetable. Now that that is cleared up…

Angel · 07/31/2013 at 8:38 am

@Nomi. Beans aren’t veggies.

Angel · 07/31/2013 at 8:38 am

@Tommy. I do. I do.

Danielle · 07/31/2013 at 7:58 am

I hot my goals yesterday! I ate 3 cups of veggies and after a 4 mile run, I did more than the 15 minutes of housecleaning I said I was going to do. Clearly time is of the essence lately. 🙂 I felt a bit dehydrated after my run, since I think it was a carryover from the day before. But I got all of my water plus some, so it was a good day!

Tommy · 07/31/2013 at 7:37 am

There you go again….getting in my head. I swear you have powers.

Nomi · 07/30/2013 at 11:49 pm

I confess I did not do well today. I had yellow peas and lentils, but it may have only been 1 1/2 -2 cups worth. Can I even count them as veggies? Poor planning today. I am going to do the meditation before bed. Shopping/measuring veggie intake tomorrow- I will do this nutrition assignment right.

Carrie · 07/30/2013 at 9:41 pm

Am going to have to count roasted potatoes as a vegetable (but it’s on the chart of vegetables you recently posted so I’m going to count it 🙂 ) to get to three cups. Also did the second of the three workouts I want to do this week.

Elena · 07/30/2013 at 9:40 pm

Veggies consumed between a huge spinach salad at lunch and a chopped salad at dinner. Reward was an amazing sugar baby watermelon.
Goals: breakfast eaten and one box of bookcase clutter put away for yard sale/donation.

Victoria · 07/30/2013 at 9:37 pm

Veggies – for breakfast I had a green smoothie with a cup of spinach and for lunch I had a salad with 3 cups of spinach/romaine, onions, cucumbers

I accomplished one of my goals today. 30 mins on the treadmill – alternating between walking and jogging.

Slomo · 07/30/2013 at 9:21 pm

Over 6 cups of veggies and 20 min of yoga today. Made progress toward all 3 goals.

Rachel Pearl · 07/30/2013 at 8:50 pm

I stayed late and came home to left overs – there were veggies in there. I’mma try to meditate after I meditate these dishes clean. I soaked in the sauna last night for 30 minutes and stretched in there. Such a good stress relever.

Darlene · 07/30/2013 at 7:08 pm

Angel, I made an Veggie Omelet for dinner using two cups of veggies from the frig. I have asparagus but no broccoli. Come on over. My husband won’t touch it. Too many veggies and no bacon!

Goal 1. Let’s see. 2 cups of spinach at lunch 2 cups of lots of veggies at dinner. I’m done for veggies.

Goal 2: Did my steps at work today. Had to play catch-up at 5 but I did it. 6500 steps!

Extra credit: Did a great stretching DVD at lunch.

Now I can go be a couch potato to rest up for tomorrow’s fitness test.

Darlene · 07/30/2013 at 7:00 pm

Thanks Rachel, you’re a sweetie. My chinese salad is becoming a legend all because of you.

Rachel · 07/30/2013 at 6:53 pm

Aunt Darlene has the BEST recipes – don’t get me started on her Chinese Salad….I have had 2 cups of veggies and I’m going home in 15 to roast ANGEL BROCCOLI before 8pm. Then I will stretch and mediate while it digests. Then I will write back to confirm that I really did this. Because I really could also be stuck at work instead…must…break…typical…patterns….must…WILL….MY OWN….POWER!!!

Roxie's Mom · 07/30/2013 at 4:20 pm

Checking in: 2 cups of the veggies down, 1 more at dinner! On my 7th cup of water too. Goal tonight is to get some boxes packed so moving isn’t hanging over my head all day tmrw and thursday as well!

Nomi · 07/30/2013 at 3:12 pm

Ohh thank you…I’m loving everything about this.

Angel · 07/30/2013 at 12:43 pm

@Darlene. Ima need you to make me a batch. I’ll wait….

Darlene · 07/30/2013 at 11:58 am

Great recipe. I make a version of that but never tried it with Avocado. Yummy.
