This is my 3rd consecutive Christmas alone. It’s gotten easier. But whenever I get holiday messages from home, my heart aches.
I miss the laughter, the stories, the Christmas stockings, the toasts, the mint cookies, the marathon movie sessions, the love. The sense of belonging. Le sigh.
Thankfully, I have music. It has always been my refuge. It gives me solace. It reminds me I am loved – even when there’s no one to tell me.
Wherever you are, whomever you’re with, hug them tight (for at least 20 seconds). Tell them all the things. Feel all the feelings. Notice the details. The texture of their hands. Their smile. The way their eyebrows move. Soak it all in.
Here’s a youtube playlist of my favorite holiday music. It’s pure SOUL. Think Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, the Pointer Sisters, Nat King Cole, and many more. Enjoy.
