5 movies that will help you lose weight

For the first time ever, I’m not going to guilt you into exercising. I want you to melt into your couch cushions and do nothing. Do nothing other than watch a movie.

Which one?  I convinced Jeff Moonie Jr, an award-winning filmmaker, to identify which movies will motivate you to succeed, in fitness and in life. Warning: plot points are revealed. If that bothers you, watch the movie before you read Jeff’s synopsis.

In the words of Jeff Moonie, Jr., here are the 5 movies that will help you lose that jiggly gut and motivate you to do something greater.

1. Diggstown. A 48 year old YMCA employee attempts to fight and defeat 10 men in the boxing ring in one night. As if this ambitious goal wasn’t impressive enough, Lou Gosset pulls this off while shamelessly sporting a massive beer gut. LESSON: Not going to the gym because you don’t look good in workout clothes is no longer a serviceable excuse.

2. The Virgin Spring. A farmer generously takes in two men and a young boy only to later realize the men are the same people who murdered his daughter. Consumed with the rage of a grieving father, the farmer lays waste to the lot of them. LESSON: This blood orgy of vengeance would not have been possible if the hero did not lead the healthy and active lifestyle of a farm hand. (No, the madman adrenaline rush didn’t hurt either but that’s beside the point.)

3. My Left Foot. The true story of an Irishman stricken with cerebral palsy and therefore only able to control his left foot. Despite the inability to use three out of four major extremities, the man teaches himself to write, paint, and carouse with the best of them. LESSON: If this guy can work around three paralytic limbs, you can get over your (insert convenience excuse here) and learn a new skill.

4. She Hate Me. (This one is for the guys.) A down on his luck former executive studs himself out to child seeking lesbian couples at $10,000 a pop. In a Lance Armstrong-esque feat of endurance, he copulates with 7-10 women a night successfully impregnating 18 of them. LESSON: Exercise increases sexual potency and desirability. That is a fact. When you’re ready to quit on that last set of stair sprints, don’t.

5. Spellbound. This documentary follows 8 youngsters who compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Kids ranging from 10-14 years old train 8 hours a day to spell words that you can’t pronounce such as tuyere, ailanthus, and nepenthe. LESSON: In your spare time, read a book like Faulkner’s “The Unvanquished” and learn new words like coruscate. The brain is a muscle, too. Make it work.

Now quit reading this and go be active, the world awaits. And if the day comes that you find yourself lacking in motivation, before you reach into that bottomless bag of excuses reach onto the DVD shelf and pop in one of these flicks.
